Way back in the annals of time, well 2019 we were accepted as a recipient of the Cooperative Community Funding scheme to set up an over 60s Walking Football group in Penketh and Sankey ( Warrington , Cheshire ).
Spring 2020 and we were good to go with our new session. Enter Covid and a postponment until Autumn 2020 when we were finally able to start the sessions but not without a little fly in the ointment. With Covid (again) causing all indoor venues to be shut down we had to frantically find a new venue outside and by stroke of luck we were able to find a great facility.
Fast forward to today and we have a regular session with between 10 and 15 players coming along each week and over the last 12 mionths we have had over 30 players attending.
Without the funding from the Coop Community Funding and the support from the customers of the Penketh and Sankey stores, this project would not have got off the ground and we would not have been able to provide a session for local residents to get more active and gain that vital social inclusion.
Unfortunately again due to the pandemic we weren't able to celebrate recieving our funding in 2020 so 1 year later we were attended the joint presentation for recipients in 2020 and 2021.
